Making A Difference
By Helping Others

Seniors represent the fastest growing segment of the population. Those 65 and older in Bartholomew County grew 103% between 1970 and 2000, a rate that was four times overall population growth.

SCS volunteers contribute more than 20,000 hours annually to agency programs. They chair activities, deliver Meals on Wheels, prepare mailings, serve on program committees, help with fund-raisers, provide medical transportation, and perform through center singing, dancing, theatre, and other musical groups such as the long established Kitchen Band.

and monthly newsletters.

Senior Center volunteers also tutor and mentor children and fulfill many community needs as individuals, or as members of service groups such as the Golden K Kiwanis.

Ninety percent (90%) of senior center volunteers said volunteering made their mental health better, and 79% said they volunteered for other community organizations (63% volunteered six hours or more each month).
